Even though I chose to use a simple WordPress theme for my website I thought some info could help you navigate my posts.
The site adapts to the device so it works differently depending on what you use to view it through. So I’m sitting here with the three types of devices most people use and dropping some helpful tips to help you navigate.
Blog Themes
My blogs/stories fall into four story lines. Each of them have a distinct category description. They are:
- My stories from the 70’s – Pipes and Drums
- My stories from the 70’s – Everything Else
- Ceramic and Wood Mashups – The blog
- Random Topics.
This information is important in the next sections so read on.
Home page
Center Panel
The are two ways to enter my site. A direct link from a social media page which can take you directly to the featured blog or by entering the site address or URL.
If you enter using the site address the first thing you will see is my home page. I’ve chosen to display all the blogs I’ve written by date order in the main panel. You can pick a blog and read it from there but it does list all the blogs regardless of the storyline or category.
This means the first blog could be from the Pipes and Drums storyline and the next from Ceramics and Wood Mashups. Can be a bit confusing especialy if you are using <next> or <previous> at the bottom of each blog.
I did notice a slight problem with the <next><previous> tabs though. They link to blogs based on when they were last posted or updated. Because I post blogs from multiple categories at the same time it makes it hard to read those linked to a category in sequential order. The way around this?
Once you finish reading the blog go back to the menu, select the category and pick the next one for that category.
If you use a cell phone the center panel shows first. You need to tap on the two horizontal lines to the right of the title bar to view the menu panel.
Another issue I noticed. When I recently went into the site after a long break from writing I noticed a few stories missing from the listing. Apparently the page gets archived so you need to select <older> at the bottom of the page on the right hand side. When I get bored enough time to change the page template I guess.
I also noticed that when using a tablet you may need rotate it to see the full menu. Sometimes the social media icons can hide the bottom of the main menu.
Main Menu
The menu has a combination of static pages that tell my story and categories that contain all the related blogs. Remember I listed the categories at the start of this page.
Select a category and all the blogs for it are listed in order of date posted. This lets you read all the blogs related to a topic or category together.
Social Media Menu
Just what you’d expect. Select an icon and you get to my social media page. These are my personal pages so not much to see unless you are a “friend”. Even then probably not much to see.
I may eventually set up pages specific to this website venture but to be honest it’s really not a priority.
And that’s it. I’m still learning the WordPress theme I chose. As I figure out new things I’ll try and update this page on how they work.
Enjoy the read.
